Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our free B2B IT equipment pickup service.

What equipment do you accept?

We accept servers, desktops, laptops, networking equipment (routers, switches, firewalls), storage devices, monitors, UPS systems, cables, and related IT peripherals. We do not schedule pickups for printers or copiers alone, but may include them as part of a larger equipment pickup. All pickups are for business and organizational clients only, with minimum quantity requirements.

Is there a cost for pickup?

No. GreenIT Pickup provides free equipment pickup for qualifying business clients in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. There are no fees for standard pickup and recycling services. Minimum quantities apply.

What happens to my data?

We perform digital sanitization on all storage media following NIST 800-88 guidelines. Multiple levels of sanitization are available, including basic and advanced options. Physical destruction (shredding, degaussing) is available as a paid add-on for organizations that require it. Certificates of data sanitization are available upon request.

What is the minimum quantity required?

We require a minimum quantity of equipment to schedule a free pickup. Specific minimums depend on equipment type and location. Please contact us to discuss your needs and confirm eligibility.

What areas do you serve?

We serve businesses and organizations throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Contact us to confirm service availability in your specific location.

How do I schedule a pickup?

Call us at (817) 527-8600 or fill out our contact form with details about your equipment and preferred pickup date. Our team will confirm your appointment and provide next steps.

Do you offer compensation or trade-in value for equipment?

No. GreenIT Pickup does not provide compensation, trade-in value, tax receipts, or donation documentation for equipment. We offer free pickup and responsible recycling as a service to business clients.

How do I dispose of old computers from my business?

The easiest way is to schedule a free pickup with us. We come to your location, load all computers, and handle the responsible recycling. No cost, no hassle. Just fill out our contact form or call (817) 527-8600.

Where can I recycle electronics in Dallas-Fort Worth?

For businesses, GreenIT Pickup offers free IT equipment pickup across 22 DFW cities. For residential electronics, check your city's municipal recycling program or retail drop-offs at Best Buy or Staples.

How do I recycle old IT equipment?

For business quantities, schedule a free pickup with GreenIT Pickup. We accept servers, computers, networking gear, monitors, UPS systems, and more. Check our services page for the full list of what we accept.

What should I do with old computers?

Back up any data you need, wipe or remove drives if they contain sensitive data, then schedule a free pickup. We handle the rest — equipment is either refurbished for reuse or responsibly recycled for materials.

How do I dispose of old hard drives securely?

Digital sanitization following NIST 800-88 guidelines is included with our standard equipment pickup. For organizations requiring physical destruction (shredding or degaussing), we offer that as a paid service. See our data sanitization service page for details.

How do I safely destroy a hard drive?

For most businesses, professional digital sanitization following NIST 800-88 guidelines is sufficient and included with our free pickup service. For organizations requiring physical destruction (shredding or degaussing), we offer that as a paid add-on. Simply deleting files or formatting on your own isn't sufficient — data can be recovered with freely available tools.

Is it legal to throw electronics in the trash in Texas?

Texas does not have a statewide ban on electronics in landfills, but many municipalities have restrictions. Regardless of legality, electronics contain hazardous materials like lead, mercury, and cadmium that shouldn't be landfilled. Responsible recycling is always the better option.

What is ITAD (IT Asset Disposition)?

ITAD stands for IT Asset Disposition — the process of responsibly disposing of IT equipment at end of life. It typically includes data destruction, asset tracking, refurbishment, and recycling. Read our blog post on IT recycling vs. ITAD for a detailed comparison.

What is the difference between IT recycling and ITAD?

IT recycling focuses on responsible material recovery and environmental compliance. ITAD (IT Asset Disposition) is a broader service that includes certified data destruction, asset tracking, compliance documentation, and sometimes revenue recovery through resale. ITAD is more comprehensive but also more expensive.

Do you provide a certificate of data sanitization?

Yes. We provide certificates of data sanitization documenting our process. Multiple levels of sanitization documentation are available depending on your requirements. Contact us to discuss which level is right for your organization.

Can you pick up equipment from multiple locations?

Yes. We routinely coordinate multi-site pickups across Dallas-Fort Worth. Contact us with your locations and we'll build a pickup schedule.

What happens to equipment after you pick it up?

Equipment is triaged at our facility. Gear with residual market value is refurbished and resold through our enterprise hardware division. The remainder is responsibly recycled — components are sorted, precious metals recovered, and hazardous materials handled properly.

Do you handle data center decommissioning?

Yes. We provide full-service data center decommissioning in Dallas-Fort Worth — from single-rack cleanouts to full facility decommissions. We handle all physical logistics including equipment removal, transport, and processing. See our data center decommissioning service page for details.

What brands of servers do you accept?

All brands: Dell/EMC, HP/HPE, Lenovo, Supermicro, Cisco UCS, IBM, Oracle/Sun, Fujitsu, and others. Age and condition don't matter — we accept working and non-working servers.

How quickly can you schedule a pickup?

We typically respond within 24 hours and can schedule pickups within the same week for most DFW locations. Exact timing depends on equipment volume and your schedule.

Do you serve areas outside Dallas-Fort Worth?
