Is deleting files or formatting a hard drive enough?
No. Deleted files and quick-formatted drives can retain recoverable data. We use media-appropriate sanitization methods aligned with NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2 guidance. When a drive cannot be sanitized or customer policy requires destruction, witnessed on-site drive crushing can be scoped.
What standards do you follow for data sanitization?
Our media-sanitization process is aligned with NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2 guidance. That is a description of our operating process, not NIST approval or third-party certification. GreenIT Pickup is not R2 or e-Stewards certified.
Do you offer on-site hard drive shredding?
We bring a portable drive crusher to approved DFW sites for witnessed physical destruction; we do not describe the machine as a mobile shredder. The on-site process and documentation are scoped before scheduling.
How much does hard drive destruction cost?
Digital sanitization is included with qualifying equipment pickups. On-site crushing and enhanced documentation may be included or partly offset when the project releases useful equipment, or quoted separately based on media type, quantity, logistics, and evidence requirements.
What documentation do you provide?
A scoped destruction record can include each drive serial number, photos before and after crushing, time and GPS evidence, a digital signature, a cryptographic hash, and a QR-verifiable PDF retained through Expunge Data for seven years. It documents work performed; it is not government certification or a compliance guarantee.
What types of storage media do you handle?
We evaluate HDDs, SSDs, NVMe drives, storage arrays, tape, USB flash media, and embedded storage. The supported sanitization or destruction technique depends on the specific media; one physical method is not appropriate for every device.
